Call of Duty: World At War review

Ha, second review of the day, this time for the sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: World At War. Unlike the last instalment, Infinity Ward has stepped off to start working on Modern Warfare 2. So, Activision and Treyarch (developers of Call of Duty 3) have decided to create a game in between that, World At War. World At War is set back in World War II where the Americans and the Japanese are fighting and Germany and Russia are fighting over land of their countries. In the single player campaign, the main part is working as a Marine Raider (except on the first level when you try to fight to become one of Carlson's Raiders) called Pvt. Miller. The other missions that you play are based on a Russian soldier called Pvt. Petrenko who you first meet almost at near death in Stalingrad.

The main controls are really simple and easy to grasp and will be able to use effectively throughout the whole of the campaign and multiplayer (will be talked about later) to pull off really good combo's using your main weapons and your pistol. Although the main part of the campaign is playing as Miller, Petrenko's campaign is as thrilling as his. With many varieties of levels such as Blood and Iron (a vehicle only mission) to Hard Landing (on foot mission using rocket strikes) and back again. The single player campaign is fun and worth doing for the secret mission, the Nazi Zombies when you complete. You are in an abandoned building (part of the Airfield map) and endless waves of zombies come after you. If all of your team die, it's game over.

Multiplayer has been changed as well. With some game types gone uncluding Old School (No-one really liked it) and Cage Match (Meh, good for challenges) and some new game types have come in including War (Fight for control of command points) and Capture the Flag (Does what it says on the tin). The weapons have changed because of it being back to WWII with some weapons ranging from the Springfield (The first blot action rifle you get with a sniper scope) to the machine gun Browning M1919 (The highest leveled Machine Gun). Perks have also changed. Perks are special skills that you are allowed, 3 normal perks and 1 vehicle perk (more about them in a minute). These perks are grouped and there are 28 in all. In Perk 1 group, there are 8 perks and in Perk 2 and 3 group, there are 10. These are grouped this way so that people can't double up on perks such as Satchel Charges, Bazookas and Flamethrower. Some of the perks include some from the last game including Juggernaut (Extra health) and Iron Lungs (Longer time to hold breath while steadying aim) but new perks such as Fireproof (Less fire damage) and the ever favourite with Lvl 65's, the M2 Flamethrower.

All in all, this game is an excellent choice for people who are veteran shooters, or newbies looking for a good game.

Final Rating - 4.9/5
